I have had a number of people request the most recent copy of the Michigan Datamaster DMT handbook. The Datamaster DMT handbook is officially known as the "MICHIGAN DATAMASTER DMT EVIDENTIAL BREATH TESTING TRAINING MANUAL 2011" The attached file is the "CLASS II OPERATOR" manual, which is used to train all general Datamaster operators on how to properly administer a breath test for evidential purposes under Michigan's implied consent law.
The 2011 manual was published by the Michigan State Police Training Division Alcohol Enforcement Unit and specifically authored by Sgt. Perry Curtis of the Michigan State Police. Although the manual bears a publication date of 2011, the manual remained unused until Datamaster DMTs began rolling out into use in 2013.
The Datmaster DMT was manufactured by National Patent Analytical Systems, Inc. (NPAS) (Mansfield, OH) but it was purchased on March 14, 2013, by Intoximeters, Inc. (St. Louis, MO). Intoximeters (www.intox.com) has been in the field of breath alcohol testing for many years, with a similar evidential breath testing device known as the Intox EC/IR. Intoximeters also has a longstanding presence in Michigan, primarily in the field of preliminary breath testing units (PBT devices), with the Alco-Sensor® III and Alco-Sensor® IV having been widely used by many Michigan police departments.
We can expect to see a name change at some point in the future, with the Datamaster DMT being renamed as the Intox DMT.
UPDATE: A new manual has been released: 2018 Michigan Datamaster DMT Evidential Breath Testing Training Manual.
